What Set You On The Path To Teaching?

Many of my family were in the public sector and this common denominator drew me in. I knew I wanted to work with young people to help improve their opportunities and life chances. I saw education as a way to help level the playing field, understanding its role in breaking down barriers and misconceptions. 

What Was It That Attracted You To Working At Springwest Academy?

Being from North West London myself, the school's location was one that was familiar and reminiscent of my own background. Its diverse and expanding community needs a staff body that reflects this change. My passion for reading and the school’s focus on improving literacy at the time, were in perfect sync. 

What do you like most about teaching your subject? 

I really enjoy showing students the beauty of my subject. It's a wonderful opportunity to cultivate a love of the subject through all of the diverse voices we get to showcase, whether it be poetry, crafted writing, spoken word or the classics. Developing students’ literacy skills is essential in preparing them for the modern world, no matter what industry they choose to work in.
