Celebration of Success Evening Spring Term 2017
On Thursday 12th January we were thrilled to hold our second Spring term Celebration of Success evening. This evening saw 68 students from Key Stage 3 receive awards in 3 categories:
1. Progress Awards – these awards were awarded to the top 10 students in each year group in Key Stage 3 who had made the most progress across their subjects.
2. Highest PARs points – these awards were awarded to 6 students from each year group in Key Stage 3 who had the highest PARs points in their first term. PARs points are awarded in school for all aspects of positive behaviour and behaviour for learning. This could range from helping staff and supporting students, handing in PREP work to a high standard and other such achievements.
3. Best Tutee Award – These awards are given by each form class in Key Stage 3 and are awarded by the students themselves. Students nominate one student from their form who they feel embodies the values of Springwest Academy.
As well as 68 awards, we also had amazing performances from students in our Creative Arts department. We had a year 10 GCSE Dance performance based on ‘Mothers of the Disappeared’. This dance highlights the plight of families in Argentina during the 1980s. Our second performance was a year 9 piece called ‘Aftermath’ – this was year 9s first ever live performance to an audience – they did superbly well. Our third performance was a Year 9 performance entitled ‘Mean Girls’ which was scripted by one of our own Year 9 students and discussed the dangers of social media and cyber bullying.
Towards the end of the evening we watched again Harry Wormwood’s garage scene from our whole school production of Matilda.
Our Art exhibition which was displayed in the dining hall was a great success. We saw for the first time live installations with some great pieces being created. We tweeted many images – you can see them if you follow us @SpringwestA
