French and Spanish Poetry Live Competition – Congratulations to our Year 8 students.

On Tuesday 18 June, four talented Year 8 MFL students represented Springwest in the Poetry Live competition at St Mary’s University in Twickenham. Our fantastic four went head to head with 60 other Year 8 pupils from local schools. In the first round, students each performed a poem in French, Spanish or German, that they had memorised in the weeks before the competition. They were judged on pronunciation and fluency as well as star quality, by specialist judges for each language. After a short break, the students were taken to separate rooms, where they had five minutes to read and practise a new poem in their chosen language, before reciting it privately to the judging panel.

The whole MFL department and several parents were there to support our students and we could not have been more proud. Not a single line forgotten, perfect pronunciation and calm confidence from all four of them. A huge well done to Leigha, Shakib  and Enrique  for their effort and sheer brilliance on the night, and a special mention to Alex, who has only been studying Spanish for seven months, and who won the overall silver medal for Spanish. An incredible achievement from all four of them.
