Newsletter October 2016
Dear Parent/ Carer
It is incredible to think that half of the autumn term has been and gone already. Over the past 6 weeks the students have settled really well into the new academic year. The buzz of learning as I walk around lessons has been really exciting. Last week we had our first Red Day of the year which focused on Healthy Living, Healthy Bodies and Healthy Minds; students all reported having a brilliant day. As I write this a large number of students are off timetable rehearsing for our show, Matilda. Please don’t forget to put the performance dates of 13th and 14th December into your diary.
As we break for half term I wanted to take this opportunity to thank you for all your support. We know that getting your child up and out of the door ready and equipped for another day at school is a challenge at the best of times, and we are really appreciative of your commitment to our Springwest expectations. We had nearly 200 families come and visit us on our first Springwest Open Evening for prospective Year 7 students and I was so proud of the effort that our staff and your children made to show off our fantastic school.
Our very first Springwest Year 7 students have made a positive and strong start to their secondary education. Their appearance with the smart new uniform including the Springwest bag has been much commented on by members of our community. In Years 8-11 increasing numbers of students are sporting the new Springwest blazers and we are replacing the old FCC badges on all blazers with Springwest badges over the course of November. Can I remind you that our Uniform Policy is clearly displayed on our website: www.springwestacademy.org and it is essential that we continue to have your support for perfect uniform. As the weather gets colder coats should be worn to and from school and should be ‘plain dark coloured sensible coats with no stripes, or designs or patterns or slogans or large logos. No hoodies or fleece style hoods.’
Your child should have had a year calendar sent home in July. Please check this for important information, contacts and dates. On some calendars there was a misprint so please be aware that 2nd December – and not 25th November – is an INSED day and school is closed to students on that day. In addition we have altered our end of term so that the final day for students is 2pm Friday 16th December.
Teachers truly value that opportunity to meet with you at Family Consultation or Subject Surgery events. However if you really cannot make one of these scheduled meetings, staff are very willing to try and meet with you another time. Staff will always respond to emails and phone messages but it may take 2 days to get back to you if they have a busy teaching timetable.
Our new website is up and running – please visit it regularly to see our latest news and celebration of all that we achieve at Springwest. There is also a Tudor Park website for our Trust: www.tudorparkeducation.org and don’t forget to follow us on our Twitter @SpringwestA
Our core purpose as a school is to ensure your child is happy and thrives as a learner. We want all our young people to make the progress she or he is capable of. Whether your child has just started in Year 7 or is in Year 11 and focusing on their GCSEs, we need to work in partnership with you. We welcome your feedback and suggestions of how we can do things better.
I look forward to meeting you at future school events over the course of this year.
