Teaching Assistant (Maternity Cover)

We have a vacancy for a Teaching Assistant to cover a period of maternity leave. You will support students with a range of special educational needs throughout the school including young people with autism, physical disabilities or who find learning challenging for a variety of reasons, within a mainstream setting. We would like to encourage people who may be considering a career in teaching. However, we are looking for at least a two year commitment. We would also welcome applications from candidates with relevant experience.

You will work with the students in a variety of ways, supporting them in mainstream classrooms, in withdrawal situations and during unstructured time (breaks and lunchtimes). The successful candidate will need to be flexible and able to adapt to work with students with a range of special educational needs throughout the school.

An understanding of the range of special educational needs that face young people is essential. Experience of working with young people with additional needs is desirable and a willingness to undertake specific training will be required, including manual handling. A good induction programme is in place and you will join a large existing team of dedicated professionals.

Salary: Scale 5 Point 11-15 of the Support Staff Pay Scale (£20,741 - £22,276)

Hours: 35 hours per week / 39 weeks per year (term time only)
