Borough Chess Championship 2025
Back
On Monday 14th July, Springwest Academy hosted seven other schools for the Borough Chess Championship. An expanded version of last year's tournament saw eight schools from around Hounslow competing head to head to see who would be crowned champions. The attendees were Springwest Academy, Logic Studio School, the Heathlands School, Lampton School, Chiswick School, The Green School Trust, Bolder Academy, and Isleworth and Syon School.
It was a hard fought tournament, with all of the top five teams within reach of the summit going into the final round. In the end, it was The Heathlands School, for the second year in a row, emerging triumphant as the winning team.
Yuvanesh Rajesh of Lampton School was crowned the BCC Master 2025, winning all of his games, including an incredibly narrow victory on time in the final round against Springwest Academy's own Amey Deshpande, the match of the tournament.
The Springwest Academy team of Amey Deshpande (captain), Vihaan Karthik, Jace Cabling, Miguel Castillo, Hamna Farooq and Masroor Ahmad, finished in a very respectable 4th place. Four truly was the magic number, with Amey, Vihaan, and Jace all scoring 4 out of 6 points, Amey only losing in the final round of the tournament to the eventual winner. There were strong contributions from Miguel Castillo (3.5 out of 6), as well as Hamna Farooq and Masroor Ahmad (2 out of 6), Year 8 and Year 7 respectively. Hamna in particular was marked out by members of staff as a player for the future, able to push some of the tournament's best players.
Big congratulations to everyone who took part in the BCC this year and made it such a great success.
