House Chess 2025
BackOn Tuesday 18th November, Springwest Academy hosted an inter-house competition for the title of House Chess Champions. The competition hosted thirty competitors fighting for their right to claim their house showed the strongest Intellectual Virtues. The houses competing for this right included Attenborough, Christiansen, Davison, Farah, Mercury and Seacole.
Students fought tooth and nail to earn points for their house, with three students playing over five games each in just 45 minutes. In total, 67 games were played as students did their best to push their house to victory. In the end, Davison claimed victory, with a grand total of 245 points - 120 points of second place, Christiansen, coming in at 125 points. Not far behind in third place, Farah showed a respectable 110 point. Our top scoring students included Vihaan Karthik, winning six out of six games; Callum Gibbons, winning six out of seven games; and Antony Caller, winning three out of five games. These three students earned 185 house points between them, therefore claiming a huge 32% of the total house points earned by all 30 students.
Congratulations to all students who attended to represent their house, as it was not just about winning! Turning up to show house pride netted any student ten points for their house, so all attending students should be proud of their contribution to their community.
Thank you to Mr Hart, Mr Franklin and Ms Bowen for setting up and hosting the event. We look foward to seeing what our students can achieve next year.
