English Teacher

What set you on the path to teaching?

I’m very lucky that teaching runs in my family. My mother and grandmother were teachers, both primary and secondary, and I learnt a lot about the profession. I spent some time in Investment Banking and in the Music Industry, but I didn’t find it at all fulfilling - so teaching became inevitable.

What was it that attracted you to working at Springwest Academy?

I absolutely love the kids and the staff here. I’m very lucky that my job is with such curious, vivacious, eager to learn individuals - and that I have the support of an excellent department.

What do you like most about teaching your subject?

I love analysis. I really enjoy picking images and themes apart and understanding why they’re there. I think that English is unique in the fact that it’s entirely intertextual - it contains history, art and music all at once.

What is special about Springwest Academy?

The community, the staff and the students. In comparison to other schools that I’ve worked at, the students here are willing and grateful to learn and are really personable. I’ve never been asked by so many students ‘how are you?’ - which really makes my day.
