MFL is…

The study of languages, in particular French and Spanish, with a focus on fostering pupils’ linguistic curiosity, deepening their understanding of the world around them and facilitating the exploration of cultures and ways of life. Through studying the four main skills (listening, speaking, reading and writing), our students will acquire knowledge that will enable them to communicate effectively with Francophone or Hispanic people and will develop a desire for travelling and experiencing life outside of the United Kingdom. 

MFL focuses on the teaching of powerful knowledge that students require if they visit, live or work abroad.  It enables students to express their ideas and thoughts in another language and to understand and respond to its speakers, both in speech and writing. Students are exposed to a range of literature, music and film resources in the target language to enhance cultural awareness and are encouraged to partake in visits abroad. We provide students with a springboard for opportunities to continue their language-learning journey beyond their time in school.
