Attendance and Punctuality

We know every parent wants the best for their child and being in school every day is a huge part of that. When students are here they are not just protecting their academic progress - they are also building vital friendships and sharing experiences with their peers. Our target for students to attend is 97% which allows for about 5 days off across the year. We completely appreciate that children get sick from time to time, but wherever possible, please help us get them into school on time so they do not miss out on learning or time with their friends. We are always here to support you if you face any barriers. Students are expected to be on school site by 8.50am but can be here as early as 8.15am to take advantage of our free breakfast.

How do I report an absence?

You must report the absence every day your child is absent from school. You can report an absence by:

Text: 07860 055 215 (preferred)

Email: attendance:springwestacademy.org

Phone (leave a message only): 020 8831 3019

Ensure that you give your child's name, their registration group and a quick explanation for the reason of their absence. If your child is unwell you must be specific about the symptoms they exhibit i.e. 'a temperature of 38.4' not simply 'fever'.

We know that sometimes our pupils cannot come to school because they are really unwell - and that is the right thing to do for them and other students. However medical advice is clear that children with mild illness will often be well enough to attend - for example if they have a cough or a cold without a temperature.

The NHS guidance: Is my child too ill for school? - NHS (www.nhs.uk) is designed to support parents in their decision making about mild illness.

Can my child have medicine at school?

Yes, prescribed medications can be signed into reception and our medical officer will dispense these, we can also hold paid relief medications such as paracetamol. Please come into reception and ask for a form.

Do I need to provide evidence for an absence?

Yes, absences may only be authorised when supported by evidence. Authorisation cannot be made until the supporting documentation is provided. This can be a GP text confirmation/email, appointment card or hospital letter.

Please note that authorisation of absence is at our discretion.

Punctuality Matters

At Springwest Academy, a successful school day begins with arriving on time. Good punctuality is more than just a school rule - it is a vital life skill that builds reliabilitym self-discipline and strong habits for our students' future careers.

When students arrive on time, they start their day in a calm, focused frame of mind. Arriving even a few minutes late means missing out on crucial morning registrations, essential notices and the vital first steps of learning. It can also cause a disruptive start for both the arriving student and their peers.

We are committed to maximising every learning opportunity. Through our EMM (Every Minute Matters) initiative, we track punctuality closely to ensure no valuable lesson time is lost.

We appreciate the incredible support of our parents and carers in helping students maintain excellent routines. By working together to establish strong morning habits, we ensure our young people arrive equipped, ready and on time to achieve their very best.

Our School Day Begins at 9.00am. Please ensure your child is on the school grounds by 8.50am.
