Mobile Phone Pouch System

From July 2025, students will store their phones in pouches during the school day.
Why the Change?
At Springwest Academy we are committed to creating a focused, respectful, and inclusive learning environment where every student can thrive. Extensive research shows that unrestricted access to mobile phones during the school day can disrupt concentration, hinder social interactions, and lead to unnecessary distractions.
How Will the Pouch System Work?
- Arrival at School: Each student will be provided with a personal, lockable pouch upon arrival. They will secure their phone in the pouch and keep it with them throughout the day. Students will be responsible for their pouches and take these home.
- During the School Day: Phones will remain locked in the pouch during lessons, breaks, and lunchtimes.
- End of the School Day: Students will unlock their pouches at designated unlocking stations before leaving school premises.
Exceptions to the Policy
We understand there may be rare occasions when students require access to their phones during the school day, such as for medical reasons. These will be handled on a case-by-case basis, and we kindly ask that you contact the school office or heads of year to discuss any specific needs.
Communication During School Hours
If you need to contact your child urgently during the school day, please call the main school office. Our staff will ensure that messages are delivered promptly to the relevant student.
