A Week to Remember at Nethercott House
BackLast week, 24 students and 4 teachers swapped the classroom for the countryside as we headed off to become farmers for an unforgettable week at Nettercott House. From the moment we arrived it was clear this would be no ordinary school trip.
Each day brought new hands-on experiences. We fed pigs, chickens, sheet and cows and even met day-old calves, an incredible moment that many of us won't forget. Travelling across the farm in a trailer added to the adventure, making every job feel like part of a real working farm.
We spent time caring for animals too, grooming horses, donkeys and ponies and learning the less glamorous but essential task of mucking them out. It gave us a real appreciation for the hard work that goes into looking after animals every single day.
An afternoon spent in the woods learning how to make dens, start a camp fire with flint and steel and make hand crafted items was a fan favourite amongst the students.
One of the highlights was exploring the walled kitchen garden. We learned about how food is grown, tasted fresh herbs straight from the soil and helped harvest vegetables that we later used in a cooking session. The results were incredible, delicious pancakes and a full roast dinner were just some of the amazing meals we shared together.
Evenings were just as special. With no mobile phones in sight, we spent our nights playing games, laughing together and relaxing by the glow of a flickering fire. It was a rare chance to truly switch off and enjoy each other's company.
This trip was more than just a week away - it was an experience that brought us closer together, taught us new skills and gave us memories that will last a lifetime. It's safe to say we returned home changed for the better.
